Goal #1: My goal is to have my students extremely familiar with the class procedures that they can perform tasks and understand specific expectations for those tasks without me having to constantly give them procedural directions on daily tasks (i.e. morning procedures, transitions, etc.)

  • This goal is important because without having classroom procedures fully understood and practiced the students and teacher will waste a lot of content area time, thus causing them to fall behind in their studies. I am going to reach this goal by focusing on classroom procedures a lot before curriculum the first two weeks so that the rest of the year will be a well-oiled machine (as a teacher). As a student trying to achieve this goal, I will organize what classroom procedures I want in my own classroom and also take copious notes on how to properly perform procedures and the steps to attain a proper procedure in my classroom so that I am not creating more work for myself when it comes time to have my own classroom.

Goal #2: My goal is to establish a quiet signal so that my class is able to quiet down quickly and I am not wasting time trying to get the class back together.

  • This goal is important because a quiet signal helps bring the class together in a timely manner without having the teacher to yell over the students. Often time’s teachers who do not have a quiet signal established spend numerous minutes trying to get their classes attention, thus wasting valuable time they cannot afford to lose. I plan on establishing a quiet signal that is catchy and I know will catch my student’s attention right away. This quiet signal will be practiced intensely the first couple weeks of school so that the students have no issues the rest of the year (as a teacher). As a student, I will attain this goal by researching and reading the various techniques teachers and researchers have used in their classrooms.

Goal #3: My goal is to have good rapport with my students so that they feel comfortable with                                                          me and trust me while I teach them.

  •                                                                 Having good rapport with students is crucial to have a good learning environment.                                                                     When teachers have good rapport with students, they feel wanted in the classroom                                                                  and they feel comfortable in the classroom. I do not want to be my student’s friend,                                                      but I want to establish a good relationship with them where we can communicate                                                                      freely and learn from one another. I am going to reach this goal by taking the time to                                                              get to know my students in the beginning by having student inventory questions and                                                            by taking the time to talk to each student each day about something besides the                                                                     content we are learning. As a student in management, I plan on reaching this goal by                                                              learning the various ways of getting to know my students better, which I have started                                                      through learning different “get to know you” worksheets and activities.
